NewTown Macon is calling on residents to e-mail Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle to encourage the state to continue funding the Georgia sports and music halls of fame.
NewTown Director of Place Kris Hattaway said the downtown booster organization is working on a plan with other community leaders to help the halls be self-sufficient in three years if the state continues funding.
The organization fears state money for the halls will be cut before the Macon community has a chance to develop a self-sufficiency plan. That, Hattaway said, would be “devastating” to downtown Macon and would have a negative impact on the Tubman African American Museum, the Douglass Theatre and the Children’s Museum. NewTown asks resident to e-mail Cagle at email@example.com to say the state’s support is critical to the halls’ path to independence.
