A C-130 aircraft is expected to be moved down Ga. 247 in front of Robins Air Force Base on Thursday morning. The wing tips, tail and vertical stabilizer already have been removed from the aircraft, because it would be too wide and too tall to move down the highway otherwise, said Bob Dubiel, director of marketing for the Museum of Aviation.
The aircraft is expected to be moved from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
It’s expected to travel south from the Aero Club Gate down Ga. 247 and up the Gate 14 northbound ramp at Russell Parkway and Ga. 247. Local law enforcement officers will help with the traffic, which should be able to get around the aircraft, Dubiel said. The aircraft will be used by the 402nd Aircraft Maintenance Group for training before a permanent home for it is built behind the museum, Dubiel said.
