Team Pro-Form, from Peach County High School, won the state SkillsUSA engine builders team competition Friday in Atlanta, finishing with a time of 26 minutes, 42 seconds, instructor Johnny Rickerson said.
The event is like the tear-down between rounds at a drag race. Teams must properly disassemble and then reassemble a 350 Chevrolet engine using hand tools. The event is timed, with penalties for dropped components and improper disassembly or assembly.
“They were spot-on today,” Rickerson said by phone Friday. “They didn’t miss a thing.”
The win earned the five-member team a chance to compete in Las Vegas for the national title at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in the fall.
