Alexander II Magnet School has been named a 2011 Georgia School of Excellence, one of just 26 in the state, the Georgia Department of Education announced Tuesday.
“I am extremely proud of and excited for our students and staff at Alexander II,” principal Cindy Canova said in a news release from the Bibb County school system. “I have been very impressed with the partnership that exists among all stakeholders to ensure our school sets the expectation that students exceed all standards, not just meet them.”
Alexander II Magnet was selected to represent the 8th Congressional District in the Top 10 percent category, which means they are one of the top 10 percent of schools in Georgia as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics, according to the school system.
Being selected in that category makes Alexander II eligible for possible consideration as a national Blue Ribbon School nominee. The school was previously named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006.
