Rain and cold weather have continued to delay the opening of new buildings for Kay Road and Hunt elementary schools in Peach County, school officials announced in a news release Wednesday morning.
Because of the recent weather conditions, delays with asphalt work will not allow the schools to open in time for their previously announced Jan. 27 open house.
Peach County schools will announce a new move-in date as soon as possible after meeting with the contractor and architect.
Under the revised schedule, students in Peach County will now attend class Wednesday and Jan. 27.
Parents in the district have been contacted by phone about the changes, and two more calls are scheduled this week.
School officials already had pushed back the opening of the new elementary schools in December, when they were first scheduled to open Jan. 7. At that point, contractors could not pave the schools’ driveways and parking lots because of rain.
