The Bibb County school board voted in its monthly committee meeting Thursday to amend for the fifth time the system’s 2009 general budget.
The school system decreased its anticipated revenue $2.25 million in the amended budget. The adjustments made were a decrease in interest income, some tax income and a $3.6 million reduction in health insurance reimbursements from the state.
The school system also plans to reduce spending by $1.6 million in various adjustments, leaving a $9 million reserve fund in the 2009 amended budget compared to a $9.9 million reserve balance in an earlier version.
During a time when the state and local financial picture is a moving target, “we’re just trying to adjust our budget and put it in line,” said Ron Collier, the school system’s chief financial officer.
The school board meets next Thursday at 6 p.m. at King-Danforth Elementary to take its official votes.
