A shoplifting call from the north Macon Kmart came in just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 7. When a Bibb County sheriff’s deputy got there, she saw a man wrestling with three store employees. The deputy arrested the man and listened as the employees explained what happened. The suspect, a 49-year-old from Byron, had gone into the store and taken a hat, some gloves and a $20 knife and then tried to leave without paying. “All three employees stated that at the exit door of the store they tried to stop the male when he began fighting them,” the deputy’s report said. “The male pushed them, attempted to bite and hit them several times.” No one was seriously hurt. The suspect, charged with shoplifting and battery, was wanted in South Carolina for a probation violation.
