The sound of gunfire Monday led a Bibb County sheriff’s deputy to fire his weapon toward a fleeing gunman in the Pleasant Hill. neighborhood.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on July Fourth, deputy Christopher Sherrell discovered two men firing shots in the air near Grier Street and Neal Avenue and ordered them to drop their guns, according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The men ran off in different directions, and the deputy pursued one of them toward the woods behind an apartment building.
The gunman turned, with his gun pointing at Sherrell, who fired two shots at the man as he ran into the woods and got away.
No injuries were reported.
