A 30-year-old Macon woman is Bibb County’s latest homicide victim.
La’Smockie Fountain was found dead about 6:30 a.m. Saturday behind her grandmother’s house at 3565 Case St., off Mumford Road, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.
“She had a gunshot to the head,” Jones said. “It appears to be a domestic issue.”
Authorities want to speak with 38-year-old Derrick K. Booze, who is a person of interest in the killing, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release. Booze, a former boyfriend of Fountain, has active warrants for aggravated assault-family violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, home invasion and “pointing a pistol at another,” the release states. These warrants were active before the homicide.
Fountain had petitioned for a temporary protective order against Booze a year ago, but it was dismissed a week after it was granted.
Relatives of Fountain arrived at the scene Saturday morning, crying hysterically, and ran through the crime scene tape toward the home.
Two relatives were later taken to the hospital by ambulance for unspecified medical conditions.
As police investigators left the scene, neighbors and family came together in front of the grandmother’s home to hold hands and pray for Fountain.
Lt. Randy Gonzales, with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, said authorities would release information as it became available.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
