A half dozen people were wounded, two seriously, early Sunday in a shooting on Idylwild Drive in Wrightsville.
Ed’s 8 Ball club had closed more than an hour before an altercation in the street erupted in gunfire about 1:45 a.m., Wrightsville Police Chief Aaron Price said.
“There was just some of the crowd that lingered out in the street,” Price said. “People from Dublin came over after the business closed and that’s when it started.”
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI assisted at the scene where an estimated 50 to 60 people had congregated, Price said.
“In a normally quiet town, this was quite a night,” he said.
All of the wounded, believed to be in their 20s, were taken to area hospitals.
One victim was treated and released. The two seriously injured victims were taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Investigators have a “strong suspect,” but no charges had been filed as of mid-Sunday morning.
Price said he called out his whole police force of about a dozen.
“Something like this happens, we bring everyone in,” Price said. “We had a full staff.”
Investigators believe more than one weapon was fired, but they are still sorting out what exactly happened.
Price said he did not expect to release any more details until Monday.
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about those involved to call Wrightsville police at 478-864-2180 or 864-278-6556.
