Bibb County grand jurors indicted a 24-year-old Macon man Tuesday on allegations he shook a 3-month old boy and squeezed him, causing "bilateral rib fractures."
Giovonni Ferlandez Tharpe is charged with two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, according to an indictment filed Tuesday in Bibb County Superior Court.
Tharpe allegedly shook the baby on March 20, causing the child to suffer bleeding on the brain and retinal hemorrhages, according to the court document.
The other alleged incident, which involved squeezing the child, occurred between March 1 and March 15, according to the indictment.
Tharpe is being held at the Bibb County jail on $8,450 bond, according to jail records.
