A Crimestoppers tip led to the arrest of a fourth suspect in Macon’s triple homicide in May.
Lewis Monroe “Bear” Cheney II, 30, was picked up by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Bibb County deputies at a Sheraton Drive motel about 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Cheney, of Dove Street, is charged with three counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault in a shootout on Fairburn Avenue that killed Arika “Lottie Dottie” Jarrell, Ralph Heard and Terrance “Heavy D” Dent on May 30.
Cheney, Dent and three others are accused of ambushing Jarrell and Heard in an attempted armed robbery behind her house.
Never miss a local story.
Vincent “White Boy” Lewis, 36; Rayshawn “Ping” Reanaldo Lucas, 32; and Quintavious “Quinn” Isaih Everett, 22, have all been charged with murder.
Jarrell and Heard were gunned down in her vehicle when she returned home after a night out.
The investigation revealed that Cheney, Lewis, Lucas and Everett drove Dent to Lewis’ mother’s home on Grenada Terrace, where he was found fatally wounded.
The bodies of Heard and Jarrell were not discovered until the next day.
In his Bibb jail booking mugshot on Monday, Cheney, who was being held without bond, looked far chubbier than he did in photos circulated in the days after the shootings. He also now has shoulder-length dreadlocks.
Deputy U.S. Marshal John Edgar said when Cheney was caught, he claimed to have been in Florida for a time.
Authorities found a suitcase full of clothes in his room at United Suites, which sits along the east side of Interstate 75 north of Pierce Avenue.
When the fugitive squad knocked on the door of Room 220, Cheney apparently knew his run from the law was over. He opened the door and immediately dropped to the floor, Edgar said.
Cheney had arrived at the motel less than an hour before his capture.
Authorities got a tip that Cheney was there and they swooped in.
