A Montezuma man out on bond in the armed robbery of a senior citizen might now face murder charges.
Mortez Javar McKenzie, 26, was arrested on a probation violation after John Thomas Hubbard, 56, was found dead lying face down inside his home at Allen’s Trailer Park on Spring Street in Macon County shortly after 10:30 a.m. Sunday, said Montezuma Police Chief Eric Finch.
Investigators learned McKenzie allegedly assaulted Hubbard in the past and a search of McKenzie’s home uncovered evidence linking him to Hubbard’s property, the release stated.
Hubbard’s body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
McKenzie had been charged with theft by taking and armed robbery in 2009, the release stated.
