A coalition of law enforcement officers set a trap to catch offenders on Interstate 16 and netted 94 arrests and 195 citations in Twiggs County.
Drivers, who saw a sign warning of an upcoming roadblock, exited the interstate at Ga. 358 and encountered officers looking for violators.
The operation Friday and Saturday resulted in the seizure of $11,000 in cash, three vehicles and two guns, according to statistics released by the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office.
Eight people were arrested through existing warrants, five were arrested for DUI and officials found 40 open containers of alcohol.
The Middle Georgia Traffic Enforcement Network sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety included officers from sheriff’s offices in Twiggs, Bibb, Peach and Houston counties and police departments in Macon, Fort Valley, Ashburn, Centerville and Cochran.
