The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is charging a Montezuma man with trying to run over a sheriff’s deputy Tuesday night.
Acting on an anonymous tip, deputies found and arrested 48-year-old Willis Plank of Montezuma at about 10 a.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. The tip said Plank had been staying at the Knights Inn on Romeiser Drive.
Tuesday night, a security officer inside the Harrison Road Wal-Mart tried to stop a man whom he suspected of shoplifting. The man went to his truck in the parking lot and did not stop when an off-duty deputy told him to. Moments later, the man tried to run over the deputy with his truck.
Plank was arrested, and the Ford Ranger allegedly used in the attack was recovered. During the arrest, deputies found items with tags still attached from the Tractor Supply Co. on Ivey Drive, the statement said. The tagged items were found to be stolen.
