A Macon man died in a Thursday afternoon traffic crash on Ga. 74 near milepost 12 in Monroe County.
Charles Smith, 35, possibly experienced medical distress that caused him to begin to drive erratically, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The Hyundai Accent driven by Smith left the road several times, crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer, said Smith’s wife, Kaitlyn, who was his passenger, according to the release.
Frank McCue, 49, of Macon, who was driving the truck, sustained minor injuries. Charles Smith died at the crash scene. His wife was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia for treatment, according to the release.
