Charges have been upgraded against a 42-year-old Macon man accused in the Feb. 12 shooting of a Lizella woman following an argument.
Michael Deon Howard is now charged with criminal attempt to commit murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to an indictment filed Tuesday in Bibb County Superior Court. Howard initially was charged with aggravated assault and a parole violation.
He allegedly shot Keevie Varnado in the head with a handgun following a party at a Sandusky Drive home. Howard attended the party and argued with Varnado, then 34, throughout the day and night, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
About 3:30 a.m. Varnado was preparing to give Howard a ride back to his home on Hillcrest Avenue. Howard allegedly shot the woman during an argument in a van in the 7000 block of Sandusky Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.
Howard is serving a prison sentence at Macon State Prison on unrelated charges, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
