Macon police arrested a man on aggravated assault and carjacking charges from a May 2010 shooting at Tattnall Square Park, according to a news release Tuesday night.
The release said Hussain Herman Watkins, 26, was charged with aggravated assault and carjacking in the shooting of Robert Stevenson, a former Appling Middle School principal, at the park on May 9, 2010.
Detectives discovered fresh leads in the case and went to Watkins’ residence and took him to the police station for questioning. Watkins admitted to shooting Stevenson in the stomach. Watkins had demanded Stevenson’s keys, wallet and cell phone, according to police.
Stevenson gave the man his wallet but refused to give up his cell phone. Instead, he threw the phone and started to run, according to a police report.
