A Hawkinsville man is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend early Saturday morning on McDuffie Street in Pulaski County.
Birago Blackshear, 32, of South Jackson Street, is charged with murder in the death of 18-year-old Ashton Bartlett, of Jordan Drive in Hawkinsville, said Pulaski County Sheriff Billy Cape.
“We got a call on June 25 at about 2:45 a.m. in reference to a shooting, and when we got there we found a white female lying on the ground,” Cape said. “She later died at the hospital.”
Investigators from the sheriff’s office and GBI identified Blackshear as the prime suspect and arrested him shortly after the killing, Cape said.Todd Lowery, GBI assistant special agent in charge, said the couple appeared to be visiting acquaintances on McDuffie Street.
“We believe, right now, it was some type of a domestic quarrel, but we don’t know what precipitated it,” Lowery said.
Blackshear, who officials say has “Devil Head” tattooed across his neck, is being held in maximum security at the Pulaski County jail.
