Bibb County sheriff’s officials are investigating the theft of a Bibb County deputy’s service weapon and gun belt from his personal vehicle earlier this month.
According to a report, deputy David Vaughn placed his duty belt in the trunk of his car Aug. 8, but didn’t need it until Thursday, when he learned it had been stolen.
Vaughn told investigators his vehicle was having problems with the security system locking and unlocking on its own. Vaughn said he wasn’t sure where or when the theft happened, according to the report.
Vaughn’s duty weapon, a Smith & Wesson 9mm, was stolen, as were two magazines for the gun, a pair of handcuffs, a baton and a can of pepper spray.
