Two men are in custody following a chase Wednesday night through west Macon.
Tyler Colt Kelly, 26, of Centerville, sped off from a traffic stop on Chambers Road where a Bibb County deputy stopped him for not wearing a seat belt about 8 p.m., according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Macon police units joined in the chase that ended when Kelly blew a tire on Mercer University Drive near Anthony Road. He was arrested after a brief foot chase. He’s charged with drug possession, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and other charges related to the chase.
A second man was arrested following an accident on Columbus Road. Lt. Chris Patterson was on his way to assist in the pursuit when 48-year-old Willie Brewster of Macon pulled his Mazda 626 in the path of Patterson’s patrol car, the release stated. Neither man was injured but Brewster was charged with driving under the influence and failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
