Bibb County deputies arrested a man for firing a weapon Monday afternoon while in a dispute with his tenant.
According to a report, deputies charged Steve Allen Morris, 57, of Rogers Road in Lizella, with discharging a firearm. Morris and his tenant, Joseph Thomas Hurst, had gotten into an argument when Morris allegedly cut the power to Hurst’s residence because the power bill wasn’t paid.
Morris told deputies that Hurst screamed profanities at him in front of his granddaughter and then jumped into his car and drove as if he might run Morris down, the report said. Morris said he fired a couple of warning shots into the ground.
Hurst told deputies he was watching TV when the power went out, and he saw Morris return to his home. Hurst said he got into his car to call police when he said Morris allegedly fired at him.
The report said Morris and Hurst have had similar incidents in the past and that Morris has served Hurst with eviction papers.
