A Macon police officer was bitten in the leg by a dog at 4:20 p.m. Monday in the 3800 block of Mathis Street, according to police.
The officer responded to a call about a suicide attempt and found the front door of the house locked. The back door was unlocked, according to a police report.
When the officer opened the back door, a white dog charged and bit the officer in the calf, according to police.
Animal control responded to the house and took the dog. The owner later provided proof that the dog’s shots were up-to-date, and the owner was allowed to quarantine the dog at home, said Jami Gaudet, police spokeswoman.

The officer was back at work Tuesday, Gaudet said.
