WARNER ROBINS — A Macon man accused of stealing a car from a Warner Robins woman he had called for a ride was arrested in the vehicle Tuesday in the parking lot of a club on Pio Nono Avenue, police said.
Joseph Reid, 27, was charged with theft by taking a vehicle, Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Robert Clark said Wednesday.
The car theft early Monday morning was originally reported as a carjacking at gunpoint, but as the sheriff’s office investigated, it was determined the woman knew the person who stole her 1995 Volvo 940, Clark said.
The incident occurred at 3:05 a.m. at Old Perry Road and Sandy Run Road, according to the Houston County sheriff’s incident report. Omni Jackson, 21, initially told responding deputies she stopped at a stop sign at the intersection, a man opened her car door, acted as if he had a gun and told her to get out of her car, the report stated.

She walked to a nearby home on Madison Drive in Bonaire, and 911 was called, said Houston County sheriff’s Sgt. Ronnie Harlowe, who investigated the incident.
She gave Harlowe more information the next day about what happened, saying she had been too scared to tell responding deputies everything.
Jackson told Harlowe she met Reid two weeks ago in Macon and knew him as “Jaquan Reed,” Harlowe said.
Reid called her the morning of the incident saying he needed a ride to his mother’s house, Harlowe said. She came and picked him up along Ga. 247 and drove him to Old Perry Road where he said he needed to use her cell phone to call his mother, Harlowe said.
She thought he was going to keep the cell phone, the two argued, he acted as if he had a gun and told her to get out of the car, Harlowe said.
Harlowe said he believes Jackson was genuinely scared.
Reid was found in the stolen car in the parking lot of Club Money’s and was arrested. He was being held Wednesday at the Houston County jail.
