A Bibb County 8-year-old is recovering from a dog bite to his face suffered Monday night at his neighbor’s house.
Hunter Gale went to visit Eric York on Fulton Mill Road when York’s pit bull ran up and bit the boy shortly before 7 p.m., according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Gale’s family is trying to figure out why the dog went after him.
“The dog was familiar with Hunter but still attacked him even though unprovoked or threatened,” Hunter’s grandfather, Mike Askew, wrote in an e-mail to The Telegraph. “It could have been worse.”

Gale suffered two puncture wounds, one on the right side of his face about an inch under his eye and the other to the left of his mouth. He was stitched up and released from the hospital.
The dog was quarantined while York was cited for violating the leash law and failing to inoculate his dog.
