Bibb County sheriff’s deputies are on the lookout for a 6-foot-tall man who likes to wear open-toed shoes and make beer runs.
And, they say, he has a taste for Miller Lite.
But the suspect isn’t a party-loving college student. Investigators say the man in question, described as white and in his mid-40s to early 50s with short, graying hair, is linked to a theft of several cases of beer from the Zebulon Road Kroger supermarket. Sheriff’s Lt. George Meadows said he did not know the date of the theft.
Officials say the man also is suspected of attempting a beer heist at the Hartley Bridge Road Kroger on June 12. He’s also thought to be involved in at least one other beer-stealing case, but officials didn’t release more information.
In one of the incidents, the man was wearing leather sandals. In the other, flip-flops were his shoes of choice. In the June 12 incident, the suspect was last seen leaving the Kroger about 6:15 p.m.
But he didn’t get away with his loot: eight 24-packs of Miller Lite beer. The manager stopped him before he could make off with the brew.
“I followed him to the parking lot and told him not to come back in the store,” Kroger manager Billy Chappell said in a sheriff’s report.
The suspect left in a dark gray Dodge Dakota truck with the license plate number BJG9388, Chappell told investigators.
However, that tag number is registered to a 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant from Savannah. Officials said the suspect’s tag could be slightly different combination of those numbers.
