The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant Tuesday for the arrest of Sarai Cherry, 29, of Carlisle Avenue, after she allegedly provided false information to deputies when confronted about leaving her kids in a car while shopping at the Wal-Mart on Zebulon Road, a report stated.
Witnesses called deputies April 20 after seeing a 4-month-old boy and 3-year-old girl inside a black Nissan Altima by themselves for nearly 30 minutes.
When deputies confronted Cherry, she claimed not to have a driver’s license with her, according to the sheriff’s office. She gave deputies and a Department of Family and Children’s Services worker her sister’s name and date of birth, pretending it was her own information.
The initial sheriff’s report incorrectly identified Cherry as her sister based on the false information, sheriff’s officials said. The Telegraph published the name of Cherry’s sister for that incident based on that report in its April 22 edition.
Among the charges in the warrant are reckless conduct, false information and driving with a revoked license. According to jail records Wednesday, Cherry hasn’t yet been arrested.
