Members of the U.S. Marshals’ Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a man Friday who allegedly robbed Piedmont Community Bank on east Johnson Street in Forsyth on Monday.
Don Wayne Johnston, 28, was arrested in Griffin as a result of task force members’ surveillance of a woman Johnston had befriended, said Deputy U.S. Marshal John Edgar.
Task force members watched as the woman picked up Johnston in her car. The task force then pulled the car over for a traffic stop and arrested Johnston, Edgar said.
Edgar said Johnston has been linked to bank robberies in Brunswick, Forsyth and Griffin.
On Monday, he allegedly entered the bank in Forsyth about 4:45 p.m. and gave a teller a note demanding money. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Forsyth police.
