Macon police arrested a man early Friday morning and charged him with obstruction after he allegedly struck an officer and tried to grab the officer’s gun from its holster.
According to a police report, officers arrested Marquel Braswell of Reynolds after he was one of several people escorted out of Whiskey River about 1 a.m. Friday. According to the report, Braswell appeared to be “extremely combative and intoxicated” as he rushed toward one of the security staff escorting the group of people out. An officer at the scene grabbed him before he could reach the security officer and tried to get him to calm down and return to his car, the report stated.
Braswell then reportedly grabbed the officers arms and refused to let go. When the officer tried to break his hold, Braswell allegedly struck him in the face with his fist, causing cuts on the officer’s lips. Braswell then allegedly reached for the officer’s sidearm, unhooking one of the straps of the holster. The officer then flipped Braswell over his shoulder and was able to subdue him.
Braswell appeared to lose consciousness for a few moments after he landed and was examined by EMS personnel, according to the report.
Braswell was taken to the Bibb County jail.
