Peach County residents are advised to be wary of a potential paving scam.
Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said the scam, which reappears in the area from time to time, involves an unsolicited offer from someone with leftover asphalt from another job.
The victim is promised an incredibly low price that is increased considerably once the job is done, the sheriff said.
For example, in a suspected scam reported Friday, someone was offered a paving job based on a linear foot but that became based on a square foot after the job was done, Deese said.
Never miss a local story.
The scammers often use intimidation in an attempt to secure payment and most often target senior citizens, the sheriff said.
If approached by someone with leftover asphalt or some other commodity such as lumber, it’s best to check with local authorities to ensure the business or person is legitimate, Deese said.
