Bibb County school system campus police officers arrested an 18-year-old Macon man for carrying a loaded gun on Central High School’s campus, officials said Tuesday.
About 4:20 p.m. Friday, shortly before a Central basketball game, an officer working the game saw two nonstudents walking across campus.
“The officer made contact, and the two were nonresponsive, nervous in nature,” said campus Police Chief Daniel DeCoursey.
The officer patted down the men and found a loaded .380-caliber handgun in one of the men’s pockets, DeCoursey said.
Erin D. Johnson, of Macon, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon on school grounds, he said. The other man was not arrested but was banned from Bibb County school property.
The men were wearing Crip gang clothing, with one wearing a blue bandanna hanging from his pocket and one wearing Westside gangster graffiti on his sweater, DeCoursey said.
No one was injured in the incident.
“They told us they were just cutting across campus,” said Chris Floore, the school system’s spokesman. “Motive or no motive, there was a weapon on school grounds, which carries a crime.”
