A suspected criminal escaped the custody of a Bibb County sheriff’s deputy Saturday night, only to be recaptured a few hours later.
About 8:30 p.m. Saturday, a deputy was taking 41-year-old Herman Hollis Lazaurs to The Medical Center of Central Georgia for treatment, according to a release from the Bibb Sheriff’s Office.
Lazaurs, who was charged with impersonating a police officer, giving false information, criminal trespassing and obstruction, ran away from the deputy and headed toward Broadway.
Lazaurs was found about midnight Saturday after deputies were flagged down by people at Dismas Charities, 744 Second St. The witnesses said they saw Lazaurs lying under a park bench. The charge of escape before conviction would be added to Lazaurs’ charges, according to the release.
