The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man and charged him with theft by receiving, fleeing and eluding, and being a habitual violator after a chase Sunday morning, a sheriff’s report said. Other charges include reckless driving, no insurance and multiple stop sign violations.
The report said deputies pursued Anthony Lee Dawley, 33, of Worsham Avenue in Macon, after observing Dawley leaving a residence on a motorcycle that had no tag. He then ran two stop signs before he accelerated to a high rate of speed, according to the report. Deputies followed Dawley as he turned onto Interstate 475 South and sped through traffic.
According to the report, the deputies’ speed reached 125 mph as they pursued the motorcycle, which left the interstate at the Hartley Bridge Road exit. He then hit a construction barrel and jumped the median and was thrown from the motorcycle.
Deputies arrested Dawley. The bike he was riding was stolen from a restaurant in McDonough a few days earlier. Dawley also has an outstanding warrant from Indiana.
