Bibb County sheriff’s officials are investigating an armed robbery attempt Friday night at Lottery Express on Columbus Road, a report stated.
According to the report, a man entered the store about 10:15 p.m. and looked around the store, eventually buying a cigar. The man returned to the store a few minutes later and started to look around the store again.
Claude Robert Wesley, who was working behind the counter, told investigators he became suspicious of the man and picked up a pistol. He told the man the store was about to close, and the man told him he wished to purchase a lottery ticket.
As Wesley turned to the ticket machine, the man attempted to jump on the counter with a gun in his hand, the report said. Wesley told investigators he fired at the man, who fell backward. Wesley fired again as the man fled in a white station wagon.
