Witness testifies she used county money to buy murder weapon years later

Testimony began Tuesday in the murder trial for Deonte Marquis Kitchens, a Macon man charged with the 2011 Macon slaying of Al Culver. Culver was found fatally shot in his car on Little Short Street in the Fort Hill neighborhood Oct. 29, 2011. Kitchens’ co-defendant, Kelvin Carswell, is set to testify in the Bibb County trial this week. The prosecution alleges that Culver was mistaken for another man involved in a feud between groups living in Fort Hill and Macon’s Kings Park neighborhood.

Multiple bomb threats reported at Waffle House

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies and Macon-Bibb firefighters responded to multiple bomb threats Monday at the Waffle House at 4285 Pio Nono Ave. The bomb squad responded the second time, but nothing was found on the property, which is near Interstate 75 in south Bibb County.

Prosecutor: Man figured he’d paid for ex’s clothes, nails and hair, so he cut them off

Joseph Maurice Meredith, 43, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to aggravated battery and robbery Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, in a Bibb County Superior Court hearing. Meredith, who had also been charged at one time with rape, kidnapping and aggravated sexual battery, admitted to striking an ex-girlfriend Dec. 15, 2015, at his home on West Napier Avenue in Macon, Georgia. Meredith, who has a history of mental illness, was sentenced to 20 years, 15 of them in prison.

Scam ringleader threatened after testifying in murder case, asks for reduced sentence

Denise Krieger, 43, was sentenced to 20 years, 12 of them in prison in 2015 for ringleading a bail bond kickback scam at the Bibb County jail that involved stolen credit card information she obtained from working at 1-800 FLOWERS. After testifying in the 2016 armed robbery and murder trial for Paul Washington Jr., Krieger asked a Macon judge Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, to reduce her sentence based on her cooperation.
