Savanna Alday was crowned Miss Perry High School 2015 before a packed auditorium Thursday night in the school auditorium. The pageant was sponsored by the Perry High School Theater department.
Savanna is a senior and the 17-year-old daughter of Jonas and Dawn Alday. She is an active member of the Perry High School Drama department, having participated in award-winning One Act plays and spring musicals. Savanna is a member of the Perry High National Honor Society and she enjoys leading praise and worship for New Era Youth Ministries. After graduation, Savanna plans to attend Masters Commission in August, which is a two-year cultural immersion program for the ministry. She plans to attend college and get a degree in theology. She also looks forward to having a career in theater.
Savanna chose the song she sang for the talent portion, “Forever Love,” the night before the pageant.
“It is very soft and pretty and elegant,” Savanna said. “I have a really good memory so I wasn’t worried, but my first practice with it was when I sang it on stage during the pageant.”
Never miss a local story.
Savanna, who has been singing on stage in church and school productions since she was five, chose to do the pageant this year because of her experience last year.
“We just had so much fun together. I just love Perry High School so much. It is such a welcoming place and the atmosphere is so very nurturing. We are just one big family,” Savanna said.
The pageant, which showcased 15 Perry High School students competing in interview, sportswear and platform, talent and evening gown, opened to contestants dancing to the theme “I love being a Girl!”
Winners for the evening were: Miss Congeniality -- Allie Payne; interview winner -- Charley Lollis; talent winner -- Savanna Alday. Charley Lollis was named Miss Freshman 2015; Greir Glaser was named Miss Sophomore 2015; Kaitlyn Bustamante was named Miss Junior 2015. Senior Mary Catherine Conner was named first runner-up.
