Perry High School’s Theatre for the Performing Arts will be filled with music Friday, Feb. 20, as the school hosts the inaugural UGA Sounds Across Georgia tour.
Student musicians from the University of Georgia’s Hodgson Wind Ensemble will offer up show tunes, military marches and original compositions, according to a news release. A master class for high school student musicians is also part of the new outreach program.
The student musicians will be led by Cynthia Johnston Turner, director of bands at the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Phil Smith, former principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, will be a guest performer. Also taking part in the event will be the Bulldog Brass Society.
“Getting out of the practice room and off the campus to share music with communities is what it’s all about,” Turner said in the news release. “The high school musicians have the opportunity to play with and learn from university musicians, and we have the opportunity to serve, perform and learn.”
Never miss a local story.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
