Mary Catherine Conner from Perry High School was chosen as one of the top 16 cheerleaders in the state and was selected to the All-State Team on Aug. 9 at the Cheerleader Coaches Association Cheerleader of the Year competition.
Mary Catherine, a senior at Perry High School, first had to be nominated by her high school coach.
Initial criteria include at least a 3.0 GPA, two recommendation letters and an essay about cheerleading and its impact on her life.
Conner concentrated her essay on the appreciation of teamwork that cheerleading had given her and leadership skills she had acquired.
Never miss a local story.
With her selection to the All-State Cheer Team, Conner is in the running for Georgia Cheerleader of the year.
That award will be announced at the GHSA state cheer competition that will be held in November.
