Houston County Friends of the Library donated $39,000 to the Houston County Public Library system Monday.
The money, which was earned during the group’s annual Old Book Sale in April, will be used to buy more children’s, young adult, reference and audio books at the libraries.
The group hopes to donate even more money before next year’s Old Book Sale, said Pamela Yates, president of Houston County Friends of the Library.
“We were hoping to give even more but were obligated to move to a new work building, and because we are afraid of unknown costs in operation, we have had to hold back a little more than we really wanted,” Yates said in an e-mail.
Never miss a local story.
The building space was donated by Bill Livingston of Livingston Properties, which allows the organization to store the books until the next sale.
