Jeff Lasseter, a Houston County senior assistant district attorney, has resigned, effective Feb. 1, to enter private practice in Houston County. Lasseter, a 19-year prosecutor who also worked in Bibb County, was previously in private practice in Fort Valley, according to a Houston County District Attorney’s Office news release.
“Jeff’s departure will leave a gaping hole in the prosecution community, and I know that we will all miss him,” Houston County District Attorney Kelly Burke said in the release. “His diligence and dedication to victims of crime made him one of the most respected staff members in my office for both the public and the defense bar.”
The vacant position is not expected to be immediately filled because of a statewide hiring freeze on prosecutors, Burke said in the release.—
