The state Department of Natural Resources was called in Friday to tranquilize and relocate a 150-pound bear and her two 60-pound cubs after the bears were spotted in a Warner Robins residential neighborhood, police said.
Tabitha Pugh, public information officer for Warner Robins police, said the bears were discovered about 8 a.m. rummaging through garbage on Shannon Ridge Drive.
Warner Robins Animal Control was called and the bears ran up a tree, where they remained until DNR arrived and successfully removed the bears to be released into the wild, Pugh said.
For the past couple of weeks, there have been bear sightings in the area and DNR has been tracking the bears in attempt to trap and relocate them, Pugh said.
Never miss a local story.
The bears had only been spotted on trash pickup days, she said.
