Public hearings have been scheduled in Byron for residents to voice their opinions about a proposed millage rate increase.
City Clerk Betty Simms said the hearings, the first of which is today at 6 p.m. in City Hall, are mandatory before tax increases take place. For the new fiscal year, the city wants to increase the millage rate from 7.5 to 9 mills.
Two other meetings are planned for Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Immediately following the last hearing, a special city council meeting is planned to vote on the millage rate.
