Beginning Monday, a construction project closed Gate 5 to all commuters leaving Robins Air Force Base.
The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 16. It will not affect traffic coming into the base.
Workers will lay a spike strip to “prevent anyone coming into the base the wrong way,” said Paul Kelley, director of the 78th Civil Engineering Squadron.
Gate 5 feeds into Martin Luther King Boulevard, one of the busiest roads on the base.
Never miss a local story.
Robins Air Force Base officials have been planning the closure for “the last six months,” according to Kelley. He estimated that the project will cost $15,000 to $20,000.
