ATLANTA — Georgia will get $9.1 million in federal funds for community development and to help build more affordable housing.
Some of the cash is from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program.The program distributes funds to communities based on factors like population, poverty and extent of overcrowded housing. Funds also come from HUD programs targeting low-income home buyers and homeless persons.
More than $3 million will go to the Columbus-Muscogee area and $2.4 million is slated for the Athens-Clarke region. Albany will get more than $1.8 million.
Brunswick, Dalton, Valdosta and Warner Robins will get more than $1.9 million total.
