During a special called meeting Thursday, the Fort Valley City Council approved the annexation of approximately 135 acres of land along U.S. 341 that will be part of Blue Bird Corp. expansion.
Last month, the City Council approved the creation of an economic development authority to serve as a mechanism to issue an estimated $4 million in bonds for the corporation to expand into the former Dan River textile mill.
The facility would be used for the fabrication of buses and the warehousing of parts. The project is expected to create 100 jobs.
During the 10-year term of the bond issue, Fort Valley will own the facility. The City County had to annex the property into the city before moving forward with the issuance of bonds. Mayor John Stumbo said if the deal were to fall through, the city would deannex the property.
