All five of Macon-Bibb County’s public pools will be open Tuesday through Saturday for the rest of the summer beginning immediately, officials announced Wednesday.
Since pool season began Memorial Day weekend, only the pool at East Macon Community Center was open the full five days while the other public pools at the Frank Johnson Center, Bloomfield Community Center, Booker T. Washington Community Center and Memorial Gym have been open three days a week.
The recreation department opened the season with a shortage of certified lifeguards, which limited the number of days the pools could open.
Last week, the department trained additional lifeguards and now has 23 on staff.

The new schedule has all pools open Tuesday to Friday from 1-6 p.m. and Saturdays from noon-3 p.m. The pools are closed Sundays and Mondays for cleaning and maintenance.
It costs $1 per person to use the pools for a day, and using the slide at the East Macon Community Center costs an additional $1.
The pool at Freedom Park, which hasn’t operated over the past two summers, will remain closed this year because it needs major renovation or replacement. Officials said a new pool would cost about $800,000.
