A Dublin middle school teacher who made derogatory comments about President Barack Obama to her class has been removed from the classroom and will retire at the end of the year.
That’s what Superintendent Chuck Ledbetter said in a release issued Monday evening. The teacher, Nancy Perry, allegedly asserted to the class than anyone who supported Obama was not a Christian.
“It is not the place of teachers to attempt to persuade students about religious or political beliefs,” Ledbetter said in the release. “In doing so, the teacher was wrong, and that has been communicated to her.”
He also said systemwide training will be conducted on that policy.
When parents of a student sought a conference with Perry to discuss her comments, her husband, school board member Bill Perry was there. Ledbetter said in the release that should not have happened and apologized for Bill Perry’s actions.
