David “Poogie” Powers, a longtime Allman Brothers Band fan, got a special surprise when he paid a visit to The Big House on Saturday.
Powers had asked Hydroshock Custom Grafix in Thomson, where Powers is from, to paint his Harley-Davidson with an Allman Brothers theme. His only directive was that the painter, Toni Starnes, listen to the Allman Brothers while painting it, particularly “Blue Sky.”
What he didn’t know Saturday was that the job was done and his friends had arranged for the big reveal at The Big House, which is the Allman Brothers museum in Macon.
Powers liked what he saw, and quickly cranked it up for a Harley rumble to go with the colorful new visual.
“This is something I’ve wanted for a long time,” he said. “I told her to take the song ‘Blue Sky’ and run with it and that’s what she did.”
