State workers will be going home at noon Wednesday after Gov. Nathan Deal issued a state of emergency for up to six inches of snow in the north Georgia mountains and up to three inches in the metro Atlanta area.
The National Weather Service expects some light snow as far south as Butts, Greene, Jasper, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Putnam, Spalding, Taliaferro, Troup and Wilkes counties, but no major accumulation on roads.
The Macon forecast mentions snow is possible after 3 a.m. Thursday, but with little or no accumulation. Morning lows are forecast to stay slightly above freezing Thursday morning around Macon.
Accumulating snow of one to three inches is expected along and north of a line from Newnan to Covington to Athens.
A Winter Storm Warning is posted for that region of Georgia from 10 a.m. Wednesday. until 10 a.m Thursday.
