Downtown road closures have been announced as officials prepare for Monday’s funeral for Macon-Bibb County firefighter Lt. Randy Parker.
Parker’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Macon City Auditorium.
Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Some parts of downtown will be closed off beginning late Sunday until about 3 p.m. Monday, Macon-Bibb County spokesman Chris Floore said. This includes Poplar Street northbound between Second and First streets and Cherry Street from New Street to Second Street.
Never miss a local story.
From 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, First Street from Cotton Avenue to Riverside Drive will be closed, though cross streets will remain open to traffic until the processional is ready to begin. Once the service is over, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office will close the entire route to vehicle traffic.
For the service, non-family attendees should follow directions of the sheriff’s office to parking. Overflow parking will run from the open lot across Riverside Drive where the Central Services office used to be located, and a shuttle will help move people to the auditorium and back.
Once the service is over, the sheriff’s office will close streets ahead of the funeral procession, which will go from the City Auditorium past the Government Center and later past the fire department headquarters. It will take a left on Oglethorpe Street, then a right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, turn left on Houston Road, veer right to continue on Houston Road, and continue to Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, located at 7070 Houston Road.
